Hey Silicon Beachers!
Silicon Beach App
This is your chance to have an impact on what MSB does for you!
We are about to build a mobile app for all the Melbourne Silicon Beachers and would love to hear what features you would like in the app. It’s not like we don’t have any ideas. We do. But we like to get your input and build an ace app!
The Appflential team at The Apps Crew have setup a free gift for members who give them 60 seconds of feedback:
Do it here, now –
And thanks to the Appflential Silicon Beachers at The Apps Crew for building the app free of charge for Melbourne Silicon Beach. This is community giving back to the community & building a stronger community. Don’t you love that?
Looking for a Job in a startup?
Look no further than our brand new Jobs Board!
The science fiction writer Theodore Sturgeon famously said something like “ninety percent of everything is crap”. But then he said that in the late 50s. He hadn’t seen the internet, Facebook or Twitter. Had he done so, he may have said 95%. And had he seen what’s on Twitter’s new live streaming app, Periscope, he would have said 99% of what’s on Periscope is crap.
But we are about to change that percentage. Silicon Beach TV is now live streaming on Periscope. To watch our streams on Periscope, go to www.periscope.tv and download the App to your iOS or Android phone/tablet. Then search for SiliconBeachMel and Alexar and follow both. If you are on Twitter, follow @SiliconBeachMel and @MrAlexar on Twitter. You will get a notification whenever we go on air.
The live streams will be available online on Periscope for only a few hours afterwards for replay. Selected streams will be uploaded to the SiliconBeach TV YouTube channel.
SiliconBeach TV will take your startup to the world. We are looking for volunteers to help. Currently we are a team of two – Athula & Alexar. Get in touch with Athula if you like to join the SB TV team.
June MSB Drinks
A HUGE THANK YOU to all the brave Silicon Beachers who showed up at the June MSB Drinks. It was the coldest, windiest and wettest night outside but wasn’t it rocking inside RMH or wot?!
We had a guest host MCing the event – DJ Anthony from the Main Event who did a superb job in getting the usually quiet crowd fired up for the EATT magazine/Silicon Beach Podcast and the Silicon Beach TV Pericast on Periscope. See below for more information on Periscope and SB TV.
Calling all space technologists at Silicon Beach. Here is a chance to win prizes totalling 1million euro. Details here. Hurry, applications close 30th June.

Geelong Silicon Beach : 2nd Monthly meetup
Wed July 22nd
Join Queens Collective for the first in a series of events designed to explore future technology. In this first event we will explore 3D printing, Read all about it and book your tickets here.
The first ever meetup of the Geelong Silicon Beach was held on 11th June and it was a great success with around 25 attending. Thanks to Fostr Funding for the bar tab and the pizzas – helped to make the night even better!
The above video is from our Periscope live stream on the day. We have archived a few live streams from Geelong and subsequent streams from Melbourne, here on SiliconBeach TV.
Our June meetup had the longest ever 90sec pitch segment. Here are the links (in alphabetical order) to the websites of some. Let us know if we have missed any.
There were others, but they didn’t have a website to show. We agree with AJ (see his comment below) that the standard of the pitches could be raised. Please have a look at the pitches of the 5 finalists in The Big Pitch 2015 here and try and lift your pitch at least a notch or two –
Learn about The Big Pitch here.
Make sure you attend The Money Pitch event presented by Lean Startup Melbourne to learn how to pitch.
See you all in July.
