It’s not about ideas, it’s about making ideas happen.

Read last year’s report here, it makes very interesting reading.

There were other pitches with no websites, so we have nowhere to link.
If you are distressed about the amount of emails you get from meetup about our events (an unintended consequence of being one of the most active meetup groups in the world), here’s how to stop the reminders being sent by meetup system (these are sent automatically and can be stopped only from your end).
1. Go to your profile settings ( seen under your profile photo on the desktop/laptop, not the mobile app)
2. Select Email Updates
3. Under Updates About your Groups, go to Melbourne Silicon Beach and click Edit.
4. Look for Meetup Reminders and select Never in the drop down box.
5. Untick any other options as you see fit. We suggest leaving the “Announcements to members about the group” ticked. This is so that you get SiliconNews and occasional announcements that are important. We have stopped announcing events except the monthly MSB Drinks and any special events.
As Athula explained during the July Drinks, we are seeing some members leaving us saying we are spamming them. It is never our intention to spam you .. so please follow the above instructions to stop the auto reminders from meetup.
SiliconEvent#1 is now online.
Read all about it and buy your early bird tickets. Early bird tickets are only $15 till 31st July or sold out. 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales go to Melbourne Silicon Beach. Help strengthen the community that serves you.
If you have an event idea, pitch it to us. You can become a sponsor of one of the most active meetups in the world for no money, while earning a whole heap of free publicity and goodwill.
New podcasts up on Silicon Beach Radio.
Sarthak & Eddie, the two co-founders of our long standing sponsors, Get Worm recently spoke to Silicon Beach Radio. Unusually for Silicon Beach Radio, the session was videoed. Here’s that video …
There’s heaps of podcasts for you to listen at Silicon Beach Radio and don’t forget to subscribe on iTunes or Android.
We have a bunch of events, workshops and classes listed on our meetup page. All organised and hosted by our partners, Collective Campus (CC) and General Assembly (GA). Check out and attend what takes your fancy. The reason we partner with them is to inspire and empower your startup.
More events, hackathons and meetups from other friends of ours are listed in our Event Calendar.
For the newbies …
Here’s a brief run down on what happens at a MSB Drinks –
We keep everything unstructured and informal, just like a startup. This is an event all about YOU. It’s about providing you the time and the space to make connections, meet new people and find your team, or fine tune your idea. Even if you have no idea what you are going to work on, after talking to some of the people you meet on the night, you will walk out with some sense of purpose. Keep coming back and you will soon be on your way…
On the night
Get to the venue around 5:30pm to mingle and have a drink, alcoholic or non-alcoholic (there is no bar tab). Around 6.30pm we will start the main proceedings – the world famous Silicon Beach 90second pitches. We say that because we live stream it on Periscope and save it on YouTube for the world to see.
If you plan on doing a pitch, please give your web address to a friendly event host before the pitches start, so we don’t waste time typing it in. Other than that, there is no selection process to do a pitch. You can pitch just about anything provided it’s useful to the community – your startup or app, idea validation, small business (provided it’s relevant to our community), professional service, product etc. Pitches need not be about raising funds. Our best startups are bootstrapped.
Pitching at MSB Drinks have been on and off for a number of years and some notable Melbourne startups have lost their pitching virginity on the Silicon Beach!
We suggest you upload a quick one page website if you plan to pitch. This way you get maximum bang for your pitch. We recommend Strikingly, a very easy to use DIY web dev platform. No coding required.
We like to keep things short and sharp. Each pitch will be limited to 90 seconds and if we have time those looking for work or looking for a tech co-founder or devs can pitch for 30secs earch. We try and limit the pitch segment to under 45 mins, so everyone could get back to the main purpose of #msbdrinks – making connections with other Silicon Beachers.
See you at the next event.

Please note we will be live streaming, videoing, photographing and audio recording at #msbdrinks and many of our other events. Please be aware that when you RSVP, you give consent to be filmed & posted on our social channels and SiliconMedia – SiliconNews, Silicon Beach TV & Silicon Beach Radio.
